Buckle Up & BBQ will be held on Sunday, October 4, 2026 from 12-3 pm at Eagle's Landing at Lake Olathe.
Set against the stunning backdrop of Lake Olathe, this is the perfect way to spend the day. Gather your family, invite your friends, and come make memories that matter.
Local families who have lost a loved one to a nontraffic vehicle tragedy, including the Rodden Family, the Bien Family, the Cline Family, and more will be honored at the event.
Your attendance supports Kids and Car Safety's mission to prevent vehicle-related tragedies and protect children and pets. Your generosity helps fund critical education, advocacy, and life-saving awareness around risks like hot cars and backover incidents. Together, you are helping keep kids safe, families informed, and communities more aware.

Kids and Car Safety is devoted to saving the lives of children and pets in and around vehicles. We do this important work through data collection, research and analysis, public education and awareness programs, policy change, product redesign and supporting families to channel their grief into positive change.
Kids and Car Safety's data and leadership have been the force behind significant changes to vehicle design saving thousands of lives and many more for future generations. A few examples include;
-Rearview cameras required in all vehicles as of 2018 - child backovers cut in half
-Safer “scoop to roll up” power window switches required in all vehicles since 2010 power window injuries decreased drastically, and strangulations are nearly non-existent
-Trunk Releases required in all cars as of 2002 - not one fatality documented in a vehicle with a trunk release
-Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB) and Pedestrian Automatic Emergency Braking (PAEB) in all cars and large trucks will be coming soon and is projected to save at least 360 lives and prevent 24,000 injuries annually
-Rear seat belt reminders coming soon will prevent approximately 500 injuries and 50 fatalities annually
